From curiosity to capability: helping farm businesses put AI to work

Artificial Intelligence is rapidly becoming part of everyday business, but for many farm businesses, the challenge is not understanding that AI exists. It is knowing where to begin, how to use it confidently and how to turn experimentation into practical value.

For producers and agribusinesses already balancing operations, administration, compliance, workforce management and changing market conditions, adopting another technology can feel like one more task on an already long list.

However, AI does not need to involve complex systems or significant changes to the way a business operates. Its value can begin with small, practical applications that reduce repetitive work, improve access to information and give business owners more time to focus on decisions that require their experience and judgement.

This practical adoption journey was the focus of the ZeroIn: AI for Farm Business workshop, delivered by the Greater Whitsunday AgTech Hub and facilitated by The  Digital Guide Tracy Sheen.

“The Mackay room reminded me why I love this work in ag. Eleven more joining online on top of a full room, and not one person there for the novelty of it, they wanted the practical stuff they could use back on the property or in the office by Monday,” Ms Sheen

“AI for Farm Business landed because it wasn’t really about the AI. It was about giving people permission to ask the questions out loud, and Mackay asked plenty of them.”
Rather than presenting AI as a distant or highly technical concept, the workshop explored how businesses can begin incorporating it into their everyday work.
